Stronger Together, Moving Forward

The Korean Community Center of the East Bay is outraged at the devastating act of violence taking the lives of eight people, including six Asian women, in last night’s shooting in Georgia. Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims. We call on the elected officials in Georgia to support the families and communities impacted and immediately address hate and violence against the Asian American community.

We are angered, frustrated and concerned for our communities including women, elders and low-wage workers who have been especially impacted in this era of increased anti-Asian violence, xenophobia and misogyny across the Bay Area and the country. What happened yesterday is a reminder that white supremacy and narratives of xenophobia and hate continue to be present in our communities and society as a whole.

Stop AAPI Hate reported nearly 3,800 hate incidents from Asian Americans across the country since March 2020, with 35% of discriminatory acts happening at businesses and women reporting hate incidents two times more than men. We remain invisible no longer. We are here to take action and work together with other communities for actionable solutions and fight for justice.
