SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Taking care of each other.
Social responsibility means we take care of ourselves, our family, our community, and our society. KCCEB’s advisory committees are a way to be part of the change in improving our larger Bay Area community.
“Minorities are not minorities because they have a small population. They are minorities because they have fewer people participating in elections and political matters.”

“In order to survive, we tell ourselves that things could have always been worse. Of course, when the incident happens, we get really angry and upset. We try to look at the bright side. If we don’t, we won’t survive.” – Mr. Choi
In 2020, many Korean businesses closed due to economic hardship and repetitive looting. The Thrive Committee brings together Korean business owners to connect with legal and social services resources and find solutions to help the small business community. This committee will help launch the Community Thrive mobile app that assists owners in navigating the stress of store theft or looting.
Some highlights of the Community Thrive app:
- Instructions on how to report a crime incident
- Resources for theft or robbery encounter
- Steps to engage in neighborhood and community safety
We need your participation to improve the future of our local business community and advocate for the needs of Korean small businesses.

“Camp Han Ma Um was hands down my favorite camp of all time!
It helped me identify with my Korean American heritage and allowed my self-confidence to flourish in the best way possible.”
– Joyce Park
Han Ma Um was the Korean American youth leadership camp sponsored by KCCEB and led by UC Berkeley students between the 1980s and 2006. Many camp participants are active members of the Korean American community now and express how critical this experience was to them.
We are looking for enthusiasts to join our planning committee and bring back Han Ma Um Camp for a new generation of youth. Join our Advisory Committee:
- Do you have a passion for youth leadership development?
- Do you have experience with K-12 curriculum design, school or camp logistics, Korean art, language, social justice and cultural activities?
